The Utah permit allows legal carry in many states that recognize or have formal reciprocity with Utah’s gun regulations. If you want the option of taking your handgun with you when you travel or visit out of state, for protection, shooting, hunting, target practice etc., this permit is for you. With the Supreme Court ruling of the Second Amendment’s guarantee of an individual’s right to to keep and bear arms applying to state and local laws, Utah is a popular player in Americans’ efforts to legally obtain firearms. Utah issues what has become the permit/license of choice for many gun owners. Twenty years after the Utah Legislature loosened rules on concealed firearm permits by waiving residency and other requirements, the state is increasingly attracting non-resident firearm owners from throughout the country. Even if you are not doing a lot of traveling, getting your Utah non resident pistol permit will help in the fight to preserve your Second Amendment and Constitutional Rights.
Example of concealed carry reciprocity between two states:
State A accepts State B’s concealed carry permit holders to carry in State A and State B accepts State A’s concealed carry permit holders to carry in State B. THIS IS RECIPROCITY.
There are also some cases where State A will accept State C’s concealed carry permit holders, but State C WILL NOT accept State A’s concealed carry permit holders. THIS IS NOT RECIPROCITY.
Enjoy a comfortable learning environment.

Reciprocity with Other States In accordance with U.C.A. 76-10-523, Utah will honor a permit to carry a concealed firearm issued by any other state or county.
Of the states below that have formalized reciprocity or recognition with Utah, there are some states that will only accept the Utah concealed firearm permit so long as the permit holder is a resident of Utah.
It is the responsibility of all Utah concealed firearm permit holders to know and understand the applicable firearm laws of the states within which they plan to visit or venture. For information regarding firearm laws of other states, please contact the respective authority within that state.
The State of Utah charges only $63.25 for non-residents (that's you) to process the application and for the FBI to perform the background check. Renewals are done every 5 years and are only $25.00.
Please note that the $100 cost of class is to pay us for the required education course and includes all of the above materials and services. Utah State fees are NOT included in our class fee. The additional fee of $63.25 (cheap) is payable to the State of Utah and is processed separately by Utah BCI within 60 days!
The Utah payment can be made by either credit/debit card, check, any money order or cashiers check and you will submit it with your application.
PLEASE NOTE: The Utah Concealed Firearms Permit DOES NOT ALLOW you to carry a concealed firearm within the State of New York. If you do not have a New York State Concealed Carry Pistol Permit and if you want to own, possess, and carry a concealed handgun in New York State, you must apply and obtain a New York State License/Pistol Permit.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long does it take to get my permit?
By Utah statute, Utah Bureau of Criminal Investigation has the fastest turnaround time at sixty (60) days from the time they start ‘processing‘ your application although it rarely takes that long. They officially start ‘processing’ your application, when they process your payment (check your bank account or card statement).
That means they may have your application in their office but not start processing your application from a few days to a month, depending on the amount of applications they are processing. BE PATIENT. PLEASE DO NOT CALL BCI until at least 60 days have passed from the time your payment is processed. Remember, they are respectful of us good citizens and they will move your paperwork along as quickly as possible.
Does My Concealed Firearm Course from Another State Satisfy the Utah CFP Requirements?
It does not. Utah’s course is structured around Utah’s law’s (unlike NY that seems to not even want you to know your rights or the laws). Neither a hunter safety course or any other state, county or NRA firearm course will satisfy the requirements to obtain the Utah Pistol Permit requirements. Also, no electronic / online courses are valid either. If you were find a Utah online course it would be a scam! Call us, we are Utah Certified Instructors and we will fulfill your needs immediately.
Do You Provide Fingerprinting And Photos?
Yes, Utah allows us to do your fingerprinting and we also take your picture and print your passport size photo.
